‘Foodgate’, offering Westgate shoppers a mountain of tantalising treats, cook offs and all things food related, is set to take place at the super regional shopping centre from the end of September.
Rob Thomas, Marketing Manager at Westgate, says “Four signature food-based promotions are planned during this tasteful event where shoppers also have the opportunity of winning over R20 000 worth of prizes ranging from Westgate shopping vouchers to sponsor product prizes.”
The Supreme Flour Cake Baking Competition on the 24th September encourages shoppers to bake a cake, with the potential to win prizes totalling R 3 500. Entrance is free but there are two provisos in entering: the first is that each cake must be baked using Supreme Flour and the second is that the Westgate logo must feature on the cake either as part of the icing or as a decorative feature. Supreme Flour will provide contestants with a 500gram packet of cake flour which can be obtained at Centre Management from Monday 19 September.
“The cakes need to be taken to Altefyn, the home industries shop in the centre, by 11:00 that morning, after which they will be judged,” adds Rob. “It also forms part of Happy Westgate Day, the centre’s 26th birthday. The winner of the best baked cake will walk away with a R2000 Westgate gift card, second placed receives a R1000 gift card and the third placed cake will win a R500 gift card.”

“Our next Foodgate event features the one and only chef in stilettos, Lucia Mthiyane, on Friday 30 September, Saturday 1 October and on Friday 7 October,” states Rob, “This event is being held in conjunction with Spekko Rice and Hirsch’s and shoppers will see Lucia cooking up a range of delicious dishes.”
“Popular Idols judge and Metro FM DJ Unathi will also be in the centre on Saturday 1 October to meet fans as part of the opening of the new Beauty Factory at Westgate. Shoppers will also be treated to Champagne and cupcakes at this new store.”
Another great event to look forward to is a shopper cook-off, to be hosted by Spekko Rice and Hirsch’s on Saturday the 8th October, between 09:00 and 14:00. The event is open to anyone but space is limited to a total of 20 people who will be divided into five teams of four.
During the first round contestants will be asked to cook a dish of their own choice made with Spekko Rice. The winner from each team competes in a final cook off for the first prize of a R5000 Westgate gift card. In the final, the five cooks will have an hour in which to create a scrumptious meal made with Spekko rice and an assorted basket of mystery ingredients.
For those feeling more adventurous, Chips Cafe is hosting a “Stuff Your Face” competition, also on Saturday 8th October. Contestants will be handed a jumbo packet of piping hot chips to eat as quickly as they can. The winners of each heat will compete in a final with the overall winner receiving a R2000 Westgate gift card. This event starts at 12:00 and contestants can enter on the day at Chips Cafe. You can obtain entry forms before the time at the store or click here to download the entry form.
Shoppers with a more refined palate can enjoy a cheese and wine tasting event at Westgate on Saturday 15th October.
During Foodgate shoppers also have the opportunity of becoming a Westgate food critic. Visit one of the numerous eateries within Westgate and fill in the shopper rate card. At the end of the promotion all the rate cards for the winning eatery are entered in a lucky draw where one shopper will win a R1000 Westgate gift voucher. The rate cards will also be available at each food store in the centre.

The budding Entrepreneurs will be judged on their creativity, presentation lay-out, marketing impact, business and financial planning.

Entrance for the Westgate 4x4 National Club fun day on the 17th of October will be R30 for adults and R15 for kids.
Westgate shoppers will receive a 20% discount on the entrance fee when producing their shopping slips. (minimum amount of R30)
Entries for the show and shine are R100 per car payable at the gate, there will be food on sale and fun activities for the kids.
Entrance for the show and shine and 4x4 give away on the 18th October is free for the whole family.

Parents brought their little ones for hugs with the Easter bunny and his animated entourage of clowns, balloon sculptors, fairies, face painters and much more at Westgate’s Easter playhouse. The Easter bunny also delighted our host of children coming from the Tshepang Home for Vulnerable Children, in Princess Crossing. |
